It's FLASH BACK FRIDAY!! Today we'll dig up an old post from our blog's archives to share with you again!Today it's our Turkey Experiment post from November 23, 2010. There are three parts.

I was born November 19th, only a couple of days before Thanksgiving in the year of 1984. My parents had bought an 11 pound turkey for the big event. It was quite the coincidence since upon being brought into this world, I too weighed 11 pounds, 4 ounces and thus was about the same size as the turkey that year.

This year, for our annual Thanksgiving office party, I offered to prepare the turkey. I've never had the honor of preparing a whole turkey before, so I took to it with gusto! I decided that I would try my hand at brining the big bird before oven roasting it. So I went out and bought a 12 pound bird. It was a stark realization, while I was cleaning it, that I was this size when I came out of my mother. SCARY! Luckily I lengthened and leaned out in size as I grew older.

I made a brine by mixing vegetable stock, apple cider, and about 2 cups of salt. All of this was placed in a big plastic bag with the bird, tied off, and stuck in the fridge for 2 days. I had planned to add spices, but I got side-tracked. The apple cider is a total experiment, so we'll see how it turns out. WooHoo!!

Totally not glamorous yet! But I hope it will eventually be!

The Turkey Experiment (Part 2) and (Part 3) - or wait for it tomorrow to be posted.
