I always find it interested to know exactly what is going on behind the scenes. They say, "a pictures is worth a thousand words," but pictures can be deceiving. Porcelain very rarely looks as beautiful in pictures as it does in real-life. If a piece of porcelain is glazed or not it will affect the way that it throws light. Because so much of porcelain is white, if the light is more yellow instead of blue, it picks up these nuances very easily, and the photograph comes out looking dirty or dark. Since we know photographs are paintings of light, this can make it very tricky. Too much light and the glare of the porcelain will wash the whole photograph out.
Behind the Scenes: Blue and White Spring Vases Flower Shoot

Luckily, we have some awesome photographers to help us take beautiful shots of our porcelain.
Here are a few "behind the scene" shots of our photo shoot from last summer while we were taking the photo we posted yesterday. The photographs were taken at the home of Mottahedeh's very own owner and president, Wendy Kvalheim, in New Jersey.
