In our family, Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday. No matter where we are in the world, it's understood and expected that we'll be together on Turkey day. It's a family tradition centered around taking the time to really think about what and who we're really thankful for - and in most cases, it's our family.

This year we are celebrating Thanksgiving in Maine with my immediate family, my husband's immediate family, and parts of our extended families. Because we'll be heading north we've been doing the holiday food shopping a bit early this year. We're already stocked up on potatoes, onions, Norwegian cranberries (which my grandmother is shipping from California), two big turkeys, flour, pie crusts, pounds and pounds of butter, you name it.

There's a lot that goes into Thanksgiving; Who is coming? How will we fit everyone? What is on the menu? How far ahead of time should I stick that fat bird into the oven? Will I even have enough plates or will we be eating off of paper?

With all of this spinning around in our minds - there's also the question, should I use my fine china? What should I put on the table?

So rather than us focusing on the food for the big event, here are some ideas for decorating the table. It's the big holidays where the fine china is generally busted out of the china cabinets, dainty tea-cups are used, and the fancy silver gets to glisten. So if you're looking to invest in simple ways to spruce up your Thanksgiving table, here are a few examples. There's no need to necessarily buy a whole new table-set. Instead, invest in a beautiful platter, tureen or a set of bowls. It's an easy way to make things look fancy without dishing out tons of cash for a whole new dinner set (and it doesn't require any degree of creativity). Plus, if you're new to the fine-dining experience, you can purchase a new serving piece each year - adding to your collection as your family continues to grow in size!

We have tons of beautiful serving pieces. Here is just a small sampling of what Mottahedeh has to offer. If you are looking for something specific, feel free to give us a call and we'd be happy to help you find something that matches your existing china.
