Rule #5: Elbows off the Table!I had a grandmother who upon seeing that we had our elbows on the table, would grab our wrists, lift our elbows off the table, and let them then go; banging hard onto the table and hitting our funny bones. "Elbows off the table". We learned quickly what was allowed, and what wasn't. Elbows certainly were not allowed.

Elbows and complete forearms on the table are a no-go, unless you are at the end of the meal and food has been removed. When you are holding the knife, fork or spoon, rest your forearms on the edge of the table. Place your left forearm flat on the table in front of you, between yourself and the plate, while eating with your right hand is considered inappropriate for most business dinners and formal occasions. While you are waiting for your food, rest your hands in your lap. If eating with one utensil, keep your unused hand in your lap.
