Named for a Scotsman whose cloak was edged with u-shapes notches, the Monteith bowl was used by suspending wine goblets from its rim. This ingenious idea spread through Europe, and its many variations today are thus called Monteith. This is a reproduction of an original Kangxi era bowl decorated in high fire cobalt blue- a specialty of Chinese exporters in the1600 through 1700's.
