This large black matte cachepot has gold painted French Empire swags and fleur de lis. It is glazed in the style of black basaltware made popular by Josiah Wedgewood in the 1700's. Basalt is a black volcanic rock sometime mixed into the clay. However, this color is produced by glazing and in many cases, dry kiln firing. Hand-made in Basano Italy. The white orchids are a wonderful compliment to the color of the cachepot.
